Like so many other motorcycle companies Derbi began life as a bicycle producer. In fact their name, DERivados de BIcicletus, is a description of ths heritage.

It was in 1950 that the transition from bicycles to motorcycles began with production of the 250cc Super. Later, a 350cc bike was produced but Derbi's main focus became small capacity bikes such as the 49 and 74cc Grand Sports of the 1960s.

Derbi's racing reputation was established between 1969 and 1972 when legendary rider Angel Nieto won five championships on their bikes. Derbi subsequently pulled out of racing to concentrate on production models returning in the 1980s and still are still competing today in the small capacity classes.

Derbi's latest small capacity racer for the road is the GPR50. A stunning looking race replica with great handling and the kind of components we are more used to seeing on the track.
