Based in Noale, Venice Aprilia motorcycles was formed in 1973 by Ivano Beggio after he took control of what was formerly his family's bicycle business. Aprilia has very quickly grown to be a major player in the racing and production motorcycle world. A policy of little in house production and assembly of third party components has allowed the company to grow so quickly.
A case in point is one of the company's most successful motorcycles, the RS 250. Whilst Aprilia produced it's own beautiful hand made frame for this bike most other componentry was sourced fom other manufactuerers. The engine for example was a tuned version of Suzuki's RGV250 motor.
Aprilia has from the very beginning been committed to racing. A large percentage of it's workforce is entrely dedicated to the production and development of works machines. This dedication is reflected in it's huge success and now almost total domination of the 125 and 250 GP classes. Aprilia remains one of the few companies still developing two stroke engines on a serious level.
It's no wonder Aprilia continues to be committed to two strokes, these bikes have formed the basis of it's huge growth during it's short history. It's greatest success is arguably the RS125, ths bike has for a long time been the most desirable model for young riders and continues to be so.
