Betfair will not allow you to enter a bet lower than 2.00GBP. To get around this enter your bet of 2.00GBP but ensure that you set unrealistic odds for the bet. If laying make the odds very low (1.01 for example) and if backing make the odds very high (90 for example). Your bet will be accepted but will be unmatched in the marketplace. Go to the My Bets tab and put your cursor in the field that shows your bet stake.
Increase the stake by the amount you would actually like to bet. Submit the new amount leaving the unrealistic odds in place. You will now have two bets showing. One for 2.00GBP and another for the amount you want to bet. Again in the My Bets tab use the red cross button to delete the original 2.00GBP bet and submit. You will now be left with one unmatched bet for the desired amount. Simply change the odds to a level that will be matched and submit again. You will now have a bet for less than the Betfair minimum.

Because it is possible to bet on both outcomes of an event on Betfair you can actually bet for free or even win money regardless of the outcome of a race!
Say for example you back a horse at 4.0 and subsequently the odds on this horse drop to 2.0. Should the horse win a bet of 2.00GBP at 4.0 would win you 6.00GBP and a lay of the same amount at 2.0 would cost you the 2.00GBP stake leaving a profit of 4.00GBP less your Betfair fees of course! Should the horse lose you lose your 2.00GBP stake from the back but make the same amount on the lay leaving you with no loss!
Odds Arbitrage
The technique demonstrated above can be used to ensure a profit regardless of outcome. Taking our example from above but increasing the lay bet to 2.50GBP would have resulted in a gain of 4.50GBP when the horse won and a gain of 0.50GBP when the horse lost.
